Home Health CoPs Emergency Preparedness
This course provides an in-depth review of the Emergency Preparedness Condition of Participation (CoP) for home health agencies, outlining key requirements such as risk assessments, emergency planning, communication strategies, and training/testing programs. Participants will learn how to align their preparedness efforts with federal regulations while accounting for patient needs, staffing, and operational continuity during disasters. Practical guidance is included to help agencies remain compliant and survey-ready in the face of any emergency.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the core components of the Home Health Emergency
Preparedness Condition of Participation (§484.102), including the
risk assessment, emergency plan, policies and procedures,
communication plan, and training/testing requirements. - Identify key elements of a facility and community-based all-hazards
risk assessment and describe how they inform emergency planning
in home health. - Discuss the required components of an emergency preparedness
communication plan and strategies for coordination with local, state,
and federal emergency response partners - Apply emergency preparedness best practices to develop, test, and
revise emergency plans that account for patient needs, continuity of
operations, staffing, and documentation during emergencies
